Operational Excellence Huisman Equipment

Huisman Equipement has a worldwide reputation for designing and constructing complex equipment and instruments for the offshore industry. Due to its innovative attitude, unique products and extensive service, Huisman Equipment has grown rapidly in recent years. This rapid growth brings major challenges in terms of (maintaining) efficiency and structure. Huisman Equipment asked Marcadus to help set up and implement its ambition: an internationally unambiguous and integrated way of working.

"Bending paper clips"

Thijs:  “'You can compare it with bending a paper clip, but then made of steel and with a diameter of 150 centimetres'. They told us that during the tour of the production hall in Schiedam. Realization of complex products not only demands a lot from engineers, but also places high demands on the organization and the necessary financial, logistics and administrative chains.”

Jan:  “There had to be a clear vision. To realize an integrated way of working for all branches, but also to combine the worldwide knowledge and experience from the Netherlands, China, the Czech Republic and Brazil.”

Thijs:  “An important factor in the whole process was the development of a new process model. This process model formed the basis for the selection and implementation of a Product Life Cycle Management system (PLM) and an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP). A challenging process, in which we tackled complex issues in the field of product structures, data management, purchasing and international manufacturing one by one.”

Jan:  “In the end we succeeded in converting Huisman Equipment's ambition into a thorough program approach. One that fits the culture and the development phase the company is currently in. In doing so, we have converted Huisman's ambition to remain market leader in the future into an achievable goal.”
